Why many prefer to sew their swimwear themselves
Many purchased swimsuits offer too little support, poor fit, unsuitable cup shapes, straps that are too narrow, and little support for larger cups. Especially with a large bust or individual proportions, self-sewn swimwear is becoming increasingly popular.
The sewing kit is ideal for:
- Self-sewn swimwear with a perfect fit
- Individual sizes & proportions
- More stable support than many ready-to-wear models
- Larger cups & special body shapes
FAQ
What sizes is the Brigitte swimsuit sewing pattern designed for?
The sewing pattern covers sizes 70–100, cup A–E.
Can I use soft cups for the swimsuit?
Yes – you can integrate ready-made soft cups into the swimsuit or make cups yourself from foam for swimwear. The pattern for the soft cups is included in the sewing pattern.
Can I sew something else from this sewing set?
Basically yes – the included materials are versatile. For example, from the swimwear fabric (1 m), you can also sew a bikini top or bikini bottoms. The Powernet is suitable for bra cups or shapewear, and the swimwear lining for gussets in other swimwear models. However, the set is specifically tailored to the Brigitte swimsuit – the quantity and cut of the materials are designed for this pattern.
Why does the set include Powernet?
Powernet provides additional support and stability in the swimsuit – especially suitable for medium and large sizes.
Why special swimwear elastic?
Swimwear elastic is suitable for chlorine and saltwater and remains significantly more durable and elastic than normal lingerie elastic.
Why swimwear lining?
Swimwear lining provides opacity, improves wearing comfort, and increases the durability of the swimsuit.
Why swimwear fabric with UV protection UPF 50+?
UPF 50+ means the fabric blocks 98% of UV radiation (UVA & UVB) – significantly more than a normal white T-shirt (about UPF 5). Especially when swimming, surfing, or spending extended time by the water, protection through clothing is particularly important, as wet fabric without UV protection hardly protects anymore. A swimsuit made from UPF 50+ fabric offers reliable sun protection – without the need to apply sunscreen to the covered skin.
Which stitch types are suitable for swimwear fabrics?
In the sewing instructions, you will find a special overview of stitch types and sewing machine settings specifically for swimwear and sports fabrics.
Which sewing needle for swimwear fabrics?
Use a stretch needle in size 75.
Do I need an overlock machine?
An overlock machine is nice to have but not essential. All seams can also be sewn with a stretch stitch or zigzag stitch. Tips for sewing with an overlock and sewing machine can be found in the sewing instructions.
Which thread should I use?
100% polyester thread in size 120. For the lower and upper thread on the overlock, fluffy thread is recommended – it is soft, thin, and elastic.
What to do if my measurements don’t match the pattern?
The sewing instructions describe how you can individually adjust all pattern pieces to your measurements.
