FAQ

What is fold over elastic / FOE?
Fold over elastic (FOE) is an elastic band folded in the middle that encloses the fabric edge. It replaces traditional binding tape and is especially popular in lingerie sewing because it is soft, stretchy, and decorative. Also known as fold elastic or swimwear elastic.

What is the difference between 14 mm and 19 mm fold over elastic?
The 14 mm fold over elastic is narrower and ideal for delicate finishes on briefs, thongs, and bra straps. The 19 mm fold over elastic is wider and often used for waistband finishes and broader bindings.

How much fold over elastic do I need for a pair of briefs?
You need about 60–80 cm for leg and waistband finishes. 1 m provides enough material including some extra. For a bra, you need about 1.5–2 m for neckline, straps, and back band. For multiple projects, we recommend 3 m or 5 m.

Can I sew fold over elastic with an overlocker?
Yes – fold over elastic can be sewn with a sewing machine (zigzag or stretch stitch) as well as with an overlocker. Simply fold it in the middle and place it over the fabric edge.

Which color suits my project?
Beige and off-white for light and skin-toned fabrics, black for dark designs, midnight blue for blue fabrics and accents. White is suitable for pure white fabrics and bridal lingerie.

Can I also use fold over elastic for swimwear?
Fold over elastic is made of polyamide and elastane – basically suitable for swimwear. However, for heavy exposure to chlorine or saltwater, we recommend special swimwear elastic, which is more durable and resistant.

Note: Due to lighting conditions during product photography and different screen settings, the color may slightly differ from the original.
